Me and My CV – Its Origins
I’m Lindsay Percival and I started Me and My CV because I’m passionate about CV’s, the people behind them and the story they tell.
Most of my 25-year career has been spent in London and Edinburgh working in Financial Services. During which time I managed teams and learnt a great deal about people as successful teams rely on ensuring people are happy, in the right role, and doing the right task.
Consequently, over the years I’ve seen many CV’s and interviewed many candidates and the one thing that always struck me was that invariably the two didn’t match up. You’d receive this great CV, the interview would be arranged, and the person who walked through the door was nothing like the CV or vice versa. The consequence of which was likely to be disappointment for both parties, disappointment that could perhaps be avoided if the CV and the individual were in sync with one another.
So, Me and My CV is about just that, putting the CV and the individual in sync with one another, irrespective of the industry or sector. It can be a powerful combination and the best thing is, both are under the individual's control.
The inspiration for Me and My CV
The inspiration came from a wonderful couple, Stephanie and Hogan, who I met in Cape Cod. They were passionate about their business, a boutique hotel on the Cape, and it really showed. I chatted with them over coffee one morning and asked them how it came about that they moved from Texas to running a small hotel on the Cape. They told me, they had thought about who they were, what skills they each had, what they each wanted, and then made it happen. The seed was sown.
A CV should show who you are, what skills you have and then it’s over to you at the interview to be the best version of yourself – it’s a partnership.
